My complimentary phone consultation is an opportunity for you to get a sense of my treatment approach. In this consultation you can share with me why you are seeking services, ask me any questions you may have about the therapeutic process, and determine if we are a good match for therapy.
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. In general, you can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue, and report progress (or any new insights gained) from the previous therapy session. Depending on your specific needs, therapy can be short-term, for a specific issue, or longer-term, to deal with more difficult patterns or your desire for more personal development. Either way, it is most common to schedule regular sessions with your therapist (usually weekly).
It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you bring what you learn and/or discover in session back into your life. Therefore, beyond the work you do in therapy sessions, I may suggest some things you can do outside of therapy to support your process – such as reading a pertinent book, journaling on specific topics, noting particular behaviors or taking action on your goals. People seeking psychotherapy are ready to make positive changes in their lives, are open to new perspectives, and are ready take responsibility for their lives.
➻ They specialize in, or have experience working with your particular issues and concerns.
➻ They don’t take your behaviors personally.
➻ They tell you the truth but do so without judgement.
➻ You find their presence comforting, yet also strong and consistent.
➻ While helping you heal, they can also just be there with you in your pain.
It is my recommendation that you do shop around and take advantage of the complimentary consultations that some therapists may offer so that you can get a better sense of what therapy with said therapist will be like.
Knowing if therapy is right for you overall, can take some time and some self-reflection. As my client, you can talk to me if you have any concerns about your reaction to therapy. It is important to be me that you feel comfortable enough to give honest feedback on your experience so that I am aware and can help make things right or even refer you to different therapist who can give you the experience you are looking for.
Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, I am currently providing sessions via a confidential Telehealth platform or telephone.
